We want our scholars to thrive educationally. Focusing on our scholars academic enrichment increases the opportunity for advancement in their education and their future career endeavors. Through one on one tutoring, group tutoring and academic enrichment curriculum programs, we will motivate and encourage our scholars to do their best academically.
"When it comes to children of incarcerated parents, 8 out of 10 have academic comprehension barriers."
Our academic enrichment component challenges this imbalance and fills in the gaps by providing one-on-one and group tutoring and will foster an environment for social and emotional learning.
Donell Johnson Scholarship Fund
In Loving Memory of Donell Johnson. Pure Heart scholars will remember His name and honor him through their academic success. When our scholar reaches the time to graduate high school and head to higher education or workforce development, we are able to provide funding through our scholarship program. This scholarship fund was created in memory of 15 year-old Pure Heart scholar Donell Johnson who was killed in June 2019 after being hit by a car. The scholarship is awarded to graduating scholars and the use of the money is not just restricted to paying for school. We want the scholars to be able to use it for items that are not usually covered by financial aid to cover costs of computers, books, food, and other essentials.
Applications for upcoming graduating scholars will be notified by email.
Not everybody goes to college, and that’s okay too. We want our scholars to feel supported in making the decisions that best serve them in their future after they finish high school. We have many partners ready to help our scholars through the steps of joining the workforce. We help scholars to explore careers and interests, find internship opportunities, help with resume building and job searching as well as assist with post-high school opportunities whether it be college or technical school.
